Last Thursday I decided to check out the famous Latin bar that everyone seems to be talking about in Grenoble. I have been hearing good things about Loco Mosquito for quite a while now, but I was a bit skeptical about going since I am not a big fan of Salsa music.
Thursdays are usually my favorite night to go out to the bars in Grenoble, or anywhere in the world to be honest. Although Thursday nights are my favorite, I have a love-hate relationship with them. I have extremely high expectations when I go out drinking on a Thursday, the night has to be good enough to justify the obvious sacrifice of waking up hung over on Friday morning. I am proud to say that Loco Mosquito, the Latin bar of Grenoble, took my Thursday night to a new high standard!
I decided to arrive early, around 9:45 pm, because I heard that it gets full very quick and I hate waiting in lines.

The atmosphere in the bar changed slowly but intensely into what I can only describe as an “Intimate Loco Crazy Party”. It felt like I was partying with friends that I have known my whole life, you could feel the Latin influence. I think that Mathilde’s mojitos were helping get the best out of everyone. If you like Mojitos, this is the place for you in Grenoble and if you have not tried them yet, go now! For those social drinkers more willing to try new drinks, I would have to recommend Florencia’s fernet with Coca-cola. By the way, the two barwoman and the barman are bilingual and very friendly!
I was happily surprised with the music as I only expected salsa to be played. There was a lot of salsa, cumbia, reggeaton and other Latin rhythms but there was more! With the music it almost felt like I was riding a musical roller coaster. The Latin music was only the start but Javier, the owner and DJ, takes you for a high energy spin of all sorts of styles. There is also time travel to the 80s and 90s. The back area of the bar was always full of people dancing, it is hilarious to try and see others trying to dance to these beats.
The night for me was legendary! A word of advice go early, it does get very full. The only critic I had about that night is that there is only one bathroom, so not very practical when you have been enjoying the best Mojitos in Grenoble.
If you go there on a Thursday night, do not forget to look for me! I think I will become a regular!
Salut!
